Planning is key when you begin a large decorating project, however it can be difficult to estimate the number of balloons required, especially when it comes to walls and arches.

Balloon arches usually fall into three kinds of shape, each with a width and a height. Whether a client tells you that they want a 15′ or 20′ arch– the arch base is still a straight line! To calculate how long the running through the middle of the arch should be, we have a handy visual guide from Amscan that will help you accurately measure your arch!

Now that you know the length of your base this can help you to calculate the number of balloons needed. If your arch will be made up of clusters of 4 balloons, the formula will be:

Length (in feet) divided by Diameter (in inches) times 57.6 = Number of balloons

For a duplet arch, which uses pairs of balloons, then this is the formula you need:

Length (in feet) divided by Diameter (in inches) times 50.5 = Number of balloons
